Introducing MYCELIUM: Multi-Hop Mesh on DMR

Available today on the RAVEN EUD and via the RAVEN Relay plugin for Radio Relay-compatible handhelds.

GoTAK today announces the availability of MYCELIUM, a tactical mesh layer that extends DMR-band team communications across multi-hop paths. Every DMR-equipped operator on the channel becomes a node in a self-organizing mesh. A team's effective coverage is bounded by the footprint of the entire team — not the range of any single radio.

What it changes

DMR without mesh is point-to-point. A teammate moves behind a ridge and falls off the picture. With MYCELIUM, every radio relays for every other radio, and the team carries its own coverage.

Operational capabilities

  • Coverage scales with the team. Operators no longer need line-of-sight to one another.
  • Position fixes propagate through obstructions. PLI carries through the mesh with priority — sparse teams stay on the map under terrain.
  • Life-safety reaches every operator. MAYDAY and medical traffic relay across the entire mesh, even from radios with low batteries.
  • No infrastructure to deploy or defend. No repeater, no balloon, no truck. The network forms wherever operators are.
  • Zero setup. New radios participate the moment they transmit. Mesh and conventional simplex radios share the channel without conflict.
  • End-to-end AES-256 encryption. Relays forward ciphertext only.
  • Native ATAK integration. Every CoT object — PLI, GeoChat, markers, routes, video chunks — travels the mesh transparently. No second app, no second map.

Two deployment paths

RAVEN EUD — Our integrated rugged Android end-user device. DMR chip native. ATAK preconfigured. MYCELIUM enabled by default.

Radio Relay plugin — For agencies already operating BTech UV-PRO series and other Radio Relay-compatible handhelds. Install on any Android EUD or tablet running ATAK, pair the radio over Bluetooth, and the mesh forms automatically.

Why DMR

DMR is the band agencies already operate in — licensed VHF/UHF spectrum that public safety, wildland fire, SAR, and tactical law enforcement teams already hold licenses for, already train on, and already carry. MYCELIUM extends what's already deployed.
