Why the UV-PRO
Most handhelds give you voice and stop there, so position goes on a phone and data needs a separate modem. The UV-PRO keeps all three ^in the radio^: analog voice, ^onboard GPS and APRS^ that work with the phone packed away, and a ^Bluetooth KISS TNC^ that puts packet applications on the air with no extra hardware.

Licensing, what needs a phone, and how it reaches TAK.
Do I need a licence?+
Yes. The UV-PRO transmits on VHF/UHF for licensed amateur and authorized commercial or PLMR use, within your own authorization. It is not certified for GMRS (Part 95E) transmission. Airband is receive only.
How does it work with ATAK?+
Add the Radio Relay ATAK Plugin above. The radio pairs to an Android EUD over Bluetooth and carries position and chat into TAK with no data connection, using the amateur bands rather than a cell network.
Does it need a phone?+
No. Voice, scanning, onboard GPS, APRS, NOAA alerts and airband receive are all radio functions. The phone app makes programming and viewing easier, and can supply location to save radio battery, but the radio keeps working without it.
What is the Bluetooth KISS TNC for?+
It lets compatible packet applications work over the radio without a separate TNC, interface box or audio cable. Bluetooth also supports HFP audio for hands-free use.
What is in the box?+
The UV-PRO radio with a matching 2600 mAh battery, antenna, USB-C cable, belt clip with screws, screwdriver, lanyard or hook mount, user manual and quick-start guide. Charging is direct by USB-C; no dock is included.
Which antennas and accessories fit?+
The radio takes standard SMA antennas — see our stubby, Maximus and wearable options above. Note the audio jack is not Motorola M1 compatible; BTECH's K1 adapter is needed for compatible K1 accessories.
How tough is it?+
IP67: dust-tight and tested for temporary immersion to 1 metre for 30 minutes.
