Shared Awareness on Swiftwater: South Worcester Flood Rescue Deploys TAK OS

When floodwaters rise across the UK, South Worcester Flood Rescue (SWFR) is among the volunteer teams that move first. Their Swiftwater Rescue Technicians, boat operators, and Water Incident Managers have deployed to major incidents from Somerset and Cumbria to York, Tadcaster, and South Wales — operating in degraded, fast-changing environments where seconds and shared awareness decide outcomes.

As part of our commitment to the volunteer rescue community, GoTAK is proud to support SWFR with TAK_OS — our hardened operational picture for SAR, defense, and public safety.

In Ed Smart's Words

"South Worcester Flood Rescue is extremely grateful to GoTAK for supporting our team with access to their platform.

GoTAK is helping us take a major step forward in how UK SAR operations can be coordinated. When lives matter, having a clear picture of where our responders, vehicles, boats and command team are is critical. GoTAK gives us that shared operational awareness, helping us deploy more safely, make faster decisions, and support our teams when conditions are changing quickly."

From GoTAK's Founder

"The people who run toward floodwater, fire, and the worst day of someone's life don't do it for a paycheck — they do it because they answered a call. Our job at GoTAK is to make sure the men and women on the ground have the same operational picture that a tier-one unit would have, regardless of budget. If you're a non-profit public safety, SAR, or volunteer rescue organization anywhere in the U.S. or Europe and you need TAK in your operations, reach out. We will find a way to support you."

Building the Capability Forward

Ed continues:

"As we continue to build GoTAK into our operations, we are excited to further develop this capability through the introduction of End User Devices, something GoTAK are also able to support us with.

For a volunteer rescue team, this support makes a real difference. GoTAK is helping us improve responder safety, strengthen operational awareness, and deliver a more effective service to the communities we protect."

Why It Matters in the Field

In flood and swiftwater operations, the operating picture changes by the minute. Tracks shift, currents rise, comms degrade. TAK_OS gives command staff and responders a single shared map — boats, vehicles, ground teams, and command posts — built on the open TAK standard trusted by U.S. and allied forces.

For SWFR, that translates into safer deployments, faster decisions, and a tighter loop between the command team and the responders on the water.

Powering SAR Across the U.S. and Europe

SWFR joins a growing roster of search-and-rescue, fire, and public safety agencies across the United States and Europe running on TAK_OS. From wildland SAR teams in the American West to flood rescue units in the UK, GoTAK delivers the same secure, mission-ready common operating picture — with End User Devices, training, and integration support behind it.

If your team protects a community and needs better shared awareness, we want to talk. GoTAK supports qualifying volunteer and non-profit rescue organizations at no cost.
