Line-of-Sight Tag Tracking
ATOS Tracking System
GPS tags that broadcast their own position over UHF straight into ATAK, with no cellular, Wi-Fi or satellite service behind them. Track people, vehicles, working dogs, drones and dropped bundles inside buildings and far off the grid.

Explore the systemMost tracking tags die the moment the infrastructure does, or they stay tethered to a phone in someone's pocket. ATOS tags carry their own GPS and their own radio: they broadcast over UHF to a Command Link on your EUD, so the team keeps eyes on people and gear inside buildings and with no network at all.
How it works
The tag
Machined aluminum, watertight, with no moving parts. Each tag receives GPS and broadcasts its own position over UHF, so it is never tethered to a phone's Bluetooth range. The ground tag weighs about 2 ounces, runs 48 hours on a CR123A and is IP68 rated to 30 feet. The flight tag weighs 10 grams for small drones and runs 4 hours. Both take a disposable or rechargeable battery, update every second in HD mode, and work from -40°F to 150°F.
Command Link
A machined aluminum receiver slightly larger than a deck of cards, watertight and with no moving parts. It pairs to your EUD over Bluetooth Low Energy or USB-C and charges over USB-C. The removable 6-inch whip can be swapped for a 3-foot magnetic-base whip for more reception. One Command Link handles up to 200 tags at one-second refresh, or up to 1,000 tags at 10 to 12 seconds.
In ATAK
The ATOS plugin puts up to 200 tags on the ATAK map as selectable icons. Label each one as personnel, a working dog, an sUAS, a vehicle or a parachute bundle, and add custom detail such as call sign, contact frequency or special equipment. Broadcast any tag's position to the whole team or to selected people on the TAK network.
TAK_OS
ATOS is fully compatible with TAK_OS. Every tag the Command Link hears shows up in TAK_OS alongside the rest of your picture, where you can name it, label what it is — personnel, a working dog, an sUAS, a vehicle, a parachute bundle — and add the detail your team needs. Share it to everyone on the net or to selected people.
In the field
No cellular, no Wi-Fi, no satellite and no repeater to deploy. Up to 100 tags can be tracked with no internet at all; with the EUD connected to a TAK Server, the number of tags is not the limit. Carry the Command Link on a pack, a chest rig or in a vehicle.
What teams tag
Mission-essential people and equipment, tracked without handing anyone another phone to carry. Tag it, and it shows up on the same map the team is already watching — in ATAK, and fully compatible with TAK_OS.
Two kinds of tracking tag
Consumer tracking tags borrow someone's phone and someone's network. ATOS tags carry their own GPS and UHF radio, so the picture holds where the network does not.
| Capability | Phone-tethered tracker | UHF tag into ATAK |
|---|---|---|
| What carries the position | The tag talks to a phone over Bluetooth. | The tag has its own GPS and its own UHF radio. |
| Range | Bluetooth range — tens of metres at best. | About 30 miles airborne line of sight, conditions allowing. |
| Infrastructure | Cellular, Wi-Fi or a mesh to relay through. | None. The Command Link receives the tags directly. |
| Indoors and underground | Position drops with the signal. | Works in buildings with no cellular, Wi-Fi or satellite coverage. |
| How many | A handful before it gets unwieldy. | 200 per Command Link at 1-second updates, 1,000 at 10–12 seconds. |
| Where it shows | A consumer app on someone's phone. | On the ATAK map, labelled, and shareable to the team. |
Same map, same team. Tracking that does not depend on a network being there.
What it needs, how far it reaches and how many tags it holds.
No. Tags broadcast over UHF directly to the Command Link, so the system works with no cellular, Wi-Fi or satellite coverage, including inside buildings. Up to 100 tags can be tracked with no internet at all. With the EUD connected to a TAK Server, the number of tags is no longer the limit.
Three things: ATOS tags, an ATOS Command Link, and a TAK-enabled device running ATAK with the ATOS plugin. The Command Link connects to the device over Bluetooth Low Energy or USB-C.
Yes. ATOS is fully compatible with TAK_OS: tags appear in TAK_OS where you can view and label each one, and share them with the rest of your team.
About 30 miles airborne line of sight, depending on terrain, obstructions and conditions. It is a line-of-sight system, so height helps.
The ground tag runs about 48 hours on a CR123A. The flight tag runs about 4 hours. Both are available with disposable or rechargeable batteries.
Up to 200 tags with one-second updates, or up to 1,000 tags when the refresh rate is set to 10 to 12 seconds.
Personnel, working dogs, small drones, vehicles, aircraft and parachute bundles. Each tag can be labelled in ATAK with a designation plus custom detail such as call sign, contact frequency or special equipment.
The tags and the Command Link are machined aluminum, watertight and have no moving parts. The ground tag is IP68 rated to 30 feet, and the tags operate from -40°F to 150°F.
